London is absolutely fantastic for a weekend getaway, whether you live in the UK or elsewhere! It can be quite overwhelming to decide what to do as there are endless activities, so we’re here to introduce 5 of the must-do things when you’re in the city. From some of the best food spots to the best sightseeing spots, we’ve got it all covered!
Go To The Museums In Knightsbridge
Firstly, London is renowned for its fantastic museums, and a handful of the best are all very near to each other in Knightsbridge. The Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum are all within a minutes walk of each other, they’re free and some of the best museums in the country, if not the world. We’d set aside at least a couple of hours for each museum, maybe you could start with the Science Museum first thing, head for lunch in Kensington, then do the Natural History, have a coffee and finish the day with Victoria & Albert Museum.
This is quite a busy day, so perhaps you could pick a couple of them to see, or just spend an hour and a half in each one if you’re not too bothered about seeing everything in detail. This is an incredible way to spend the day, you can learn something and explore the stunning area of Knightsbridge between your museum visits.
Explore Hyde Park
Hyde Park is another must-visit spot when you’re in London! It’s really easy to access, with endless options whether you’re looking for Hyde Park parking, tube stops, bus stops or anything in between. It’s a beautiful park that you can simply walk around, with cafes, stunning flower gardens, a central lake, fitness classes and so much more. You could spend hours walking around, then stop off for a picnic half way.
If you just want to spend an hour or so exploring, a great option is to hire Santander Cycles. There are docking stations all around the park, so you can simply pick up a bike, pay as you go and see more of Hyde Park in a shorter space of time. Quite often there are events in Hyde Park too, so you could have a look before you go and see if there is anything that you fancy round there.
Tower of London
Another excellent thing to do when you’re in London is visit the Tower of London. Make sure you pre-book your tickets, as this is definitely one of the top things to see in the city so it’s very popular! The Tower of London features the main castle with over 1,000 years of history and being home to the Crown Jewels, Beefeaters and legendary ravens. You’ll need at least 3 hours for your visit so bear this in mind, as there is a lot to see and do. With your ticket you will be able to see the Crown Jewels, the ravens, the outdoor areas of the castle and the moat, and so much more.
There are also live shows and reenactments which are really interesting and fantastic for all of the family, so make sure you plan your time there around the shows so you don’t miss out on them. You can also get audio tours or guide books from around £4 if you do want a bit more structure to your visit, however they are easy to navigate on your own so these definitely aren’t necessary.
Borough Market
Everyone’s taste in food is different, which is why we absolutely love a food market, and London has some absolutely incredible ones. There are great ones all over the city, however our favourite is Borough Market. Make sure you come hungry, as you’ll want to try everything that they have to offer! If you’re stopping in the city for a while, there are fantastic fresh produce stalls that you should definitely make the most of. However if you’re visiting and want food-on-the-go, your options are endless and so so delicious!
From seafood wraps to chicken shawarma, Persian sharing dishes to bao buns, exceptional coffee to Indian vegetarian street food, our list could go on and on and on. We’d recommend trying different things from different stalls to gauge just how fantastic these vendors are. Also, have a good look around before you commit to one stall, as there are so many amazing ones to choose from! Open 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday (closes at 4pm on Sunday) this is the ideal spot for lunch when you’re in the city. There are endless amounts of fantastic restaurants to suit all price points in London, however if you want a taste of what the city has to offer, Borough Market is a great place to go.
